Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Sacks Stephen Keshi, Amodu Takes Over

The Nigeria Football Federation has terminated the appointment of Stephen Keshi as Head Coach of the Senior National Football Team, Super Eagles.

A statement issued to newsmen by the NFF Executive Committee on Saturday said this decision was made, “having thoroughly reviewed the reports/findings of the NFF Disciplinary Committee and NFF Technical and Development Committee, as well as having reviewed the actions and inactions of Mr. Stephen Keshi, in the performance of his duties as Super Eagles’ Head Coach, which we found to lack the required commitment to achieve the Federation’s objectives as set out in the Coach’s employment contract.”

Buhari Fires his Chief Security Officer

President Muhammadu Buhari has fired his Chief Security Officer, Mr. Abdulrahman Mani, for engaging in a supremacy battle with the Aide-de-Camp to the President, Lt.-Col. Lawal Abubakar.

According to reports, his redeployment was one of the sweeping changes being carried out by the acting Director-General of the Department of State Service, Mr. Lawan Daura, on the order of the President.

Chelsea Agree to Sign Radamel Falcao from Monaco

Chelsea Football Club, Premier League champions, on Friday announced that they have agreed terms with Monaco for the season-long loan of Radamel Falcao.

The Colombian international will link up with Jose Mourinho’s squad for the 2015/16 season.

In an inerview, Falcao told chelseafc.com; “I am very happy to be joining Chelsea and can’t wait to start training and help with our aim of retaining the league title and being successful in Europe.”

Federal Government May Negotiate with Boko Haram - Presidency

The Federal Government has said that it is open to negotiations with the Boko Haram sect in order to find a lasting solution to the security crisis in the country, if the group is willing.

This was made known by the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Friday, in an interview with the BBC.

Adesina in the interview, said the Federal Government was not ruling out negotiations with the sect if it would put an end to the activities of the group. He lamented that the insurgents had attacked so many villages and killed scores of people.

We Won't Devalue the Naira - CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday, disclosed that its decision not to undertake a further devaluation of the naira was borne out of the need to safeguard the Nigerian economy from the shocks and negative impact the depreciation will have on the economy.

Reacting to an article in the Economist Magazine, the CBN in a statement signed by its Director, Corporate Communications, Mr. Ibrahim Mu’azu, maintained that the CBN does not panic and will not take desperate measures to satisfy few misguided interests in the market.

President Buhari Appoints Lawal Musa Daura as New Director General DSS

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Lawal Musa Daura as the new Director General, Department of State Security Service (DSS), as a replacement for Mr. Ita Ekpeyong.

The appointment was conveyed yesterday in a letter by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Danladi Kifasi.

The appointment of Daura is the second this week, following the naming of Mrs Amina Zakari as acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Tuesday.

El- Rufai to Sue Publishers Over False Assets Report

Earlier today, The Union a daily newspaper reported that Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir El Rufai had declared N90 billion and 40 houses in the FCT as his assets before the Code of Conduct Bureau.

According to the Union Newspaper: 

"Governor Nasir ElRufai of Kaduna State has declared his asset. He is worth N90 billion. The governor’s assets declaration came as a big shock to most Kaduna residents yesterday as he allegedly declared ownership of 40 mansions, most of which are located in Abuja. Kaduna State Director Code of Conduct Bureau, George David, however, declined to comment when contacted." 

Naira Falls to N230 to a Dollar

The nation’s economy is not in a good shape , particularly the national currency, the naira, no thanks to the depleting reserves and the subsequent banning of importers of 41 items from the foreign exchange market by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Barely 10 days after the CBN stopped forex sale to importers of rice, textile and 39 other items, the naira on Wednesday crashed to 230 against the United States dollar at the parallel market, down from 218 recorded on June 23 when the new forex rule was introduced.
