Davido, Yemi Alade, Others to Feature at MTV 2015 Africa Awards


MTV Base has announced that Davido, Yemi Alade, Diamond Platnumz, Bucie and Cassper Nyovest, have been added to the sizzling performer line-up for the MTV Africa Music Awards KwaZulu-Natal 2015.  The five African artistes join US R&B star NE-YO at the fifth edition of the MAMA on 18 July.

This will be a first time MAMA appearance for Bucie, Yemi Alade and Cassper Nyovest, while MAMA veterans Diamond Platnumz and Davido make a return to the spectacular MAMA stage after a memorable performance of their collaboration “My Number One: Remix” at the 2014 event.

Mugabe Takes a Weird Swipe at Obama after US Supreme Court's Decision to Legalize Gay Marriage Across America


Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe has taken a weird swipe at US President Barack Obama following the Supreme Court’s decision to legalise gay marriage across America last week, sarcastically promising to travel to Washington and ask for his hand in marriage.

Following the 5-4 Supreme Court decision, which was widely lauded across the Western world, the 91-year-old leader, known for his fiercely anti-homosexuality stance, said he would “get down on my knee and ask [Obama’s] hand”, before he went on to condemn marriage equality.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner Set to Divorce


Hollywood A-list couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner on Tuesday announced plans to divorce, a day after their 10th wedding anniversary.

According to the couple in a joint statement "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children, whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time,".

Oscar-winning Affleck, 42, and Garner, 43, starred together in the 2003 superhero film "Daredevil" and were married in 2005 and have three children, all under the age of 10.

80 Million People to go Blind Globally in 2020


President of Nigerian Optometric Association NOA Dr Damian Echendu, has said that if proper health measures are not taken, no fewer than Eighty million persons will go blind by 2020 globally.

Echendu stated this at a press briefing held yesterday in Abuja. He said, “persons above 40 years should seek eye care to avoid sudden blindness and some avoidable conditions like glaucoma and refractive error.

He said, “Many eye problem don’t come with any sign or symptoms, Some even have trauma which affect their eyes, we also have some cases that many Communities do not have optometrist,’’

Gmail Gets "UNDO SEND" Email Option, Users Can now Undo and Recall Messages


Here is an exciting news for all Gmail users, Any Gmail user who regrets a message they just sent has the option to undo the action, provided they’re quick enough.

According to a report, the new Undo Send option allows a message to be retrieved, so long as it’s clicked upon within 30 seconds of the Send command being hit. 

Security Operatives Foil Bank Robbery in Rivers State


Security operatives from the Rivers State Police Command foiled a bank robbery along Mile 4, Ikwerre Road in Port Harcourt, the state capital this morning.

Armed men numbering about five had stormed a commercial bank and shot sporadically in their bid to scare people away, but were repelled by policemen, who were alerted by the sound of the gunshots.

Though the crowd in a queue at the front of the bank dispersed immediately the armed announced their presence at the scene with intermittent gunshots, security operatives that were not too far from the vicinity were not deterred by the antics of the hoodlums.

50 Cent Disses Puff daddy, FOX and BET Awards Event in a Video


American Ace Rapper 50 Cent was not pleased with the 2015 BET Awards. He was specifically upset at the Best Actor award, which went to Terrence Howard, star of the FOX show Empire.

"It's a damn shame what happened to the BET Awards," 50 Cent says in a video posted by Say Cheese TV. "FOX bought the whole goddamn show. How you gonna have a best actor award given to Terrence Howard and not even mention Omari Hardwick?"

Hardwick is the lead in 50's program Power, which the rapper has championed over Empire.

Central Bank of Nigeria Extends Bank Verification Enrollment to October 31, 2015


The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN), has extended the deadline for customers to enrol for the Bank Verification Number (BVN) by four months till October 31, 2015.

Director, Banking and Payments System Department, CBN, Mr. Dipo Fatokun, announced the extension in a circular to the public.

According to the circular:  “You would recall that as part of its effort in the implementation of the Bank Verification Number (BVN) project, the Central Bank of Nigeria issued circulars stipulating milestones for the successful completion of the project. One of such milestones was that by June 30, all Deposit Money Banks (DMB) customers should have the BVN. Any bank customer without the BVN attached to the account would be deemed to have inadequate requirement with respect to the Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines.

NEXIM Bank Offers 1Billion Naira Loan to Entertainment Industry

The Nigerian Export Import Bank has provided over N1bn loan to support various projects in the creative and entertainment industry.

Mr. Robert Orya, Managing Director, NEXIM Bank, in a presentation made in Abuja, said the amount was made available to the sector owing to the inherent opportunities and the high growth prospects of the industry.

Accordingly to Orya, the sector, which currently contributes about 1.4 per cent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product, was projected to grow its contribution to double digit within the shortest time possible

Naira Hits N228 as Central Bank of Nigeria Adjust Forex Peg


The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday lowered the naira peg to 196.95 against the dollar from 196.90 it set last week.

This made it the fourth time the CBN had adjusted the peg since it was introduced in February, Reuters reported.

This happened just as the naira tumbled further to 228 against the dollar at the parallel market on Tuesday from 265 on Monday.
