Security Operatives Foil Bank Robbery in Rivers State

Security operatives from the Rivers State Police Command foiled a bank robbery along Mile 4, Ikwerre Road in Port Harcourt, the state capital this morning.

Armed men numbering about five had stormed a commercial bank and shot sporadically in their bid to scare people away, but were repelled by policemen, who were alerted by the sound of the gunshots.

Though the crowd in a queue at the front of the bank dispersed immediately the armed announced their presence at the scene with intermittent gunshots, security operatives that were not too far from the vicinity were not deterred by the antics of the hoodlums.

The crowd was in a queue to get their Bank Verification Number, following the announcement that June 30, 2015, was the deadline for the collection of BVN.

It was gathered that the policemen gave the armed robbers a chase up to Ada George Road, where the hoodlums jumped out of their car, continued shooting before intercepting a Toyota Hilux vehicle conveying an expatriate suspected to be an Arab.

An eyewitness stated that the expatriated jumped out of the car and ran into a crowd of people that had also taken to their heels.

Before escaping with the vehicle towards Choba road, the bandits shot the driver to the expatriate on the leg and dragged him out of the Hilux van in their desperate bid to escape.
