Microsoft Unit Sacks 85% of Nigerian Workers


Microsoft on Thursday sacked 34 of the 40 employees in the Nigerian office of its phone division.

The sacking came 24 hours after the company’s latest Windows 10 was made available in Nigeria and 189 other countries.

Former NIMASA Dirctor General, Patrick Akpobolokemi Arrested by EFCC


Patrick Ziakede Akpobolokemi the immediate past Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) two weeks after he was replaced.

According to Premium Times, Akpobolokemi was arrested in Lagos on Thursday morning and was detained at the Lagos office of the EFCC in the Ikoyi area of the city.

Nigerian Military Raids Boko Haram Camps, 59 Persons Rescued.



In an effort to get rid of Insurgents, about 59 men, women and children have been rescued from Boko Haram captivity after troops of 151 Task Force Battalion launched an attack on the sect members camp in Kashingeri, Wale and Kushingari villages in Borno state today. Items recovered include a Land Rover vehicle and a Tipper were recovered from the sect members after the operation.

160 million Barrels of Oil worth $13.7bn Stolen Under NNPC, Says NEITI


Hajiya Zainab Shamsuna-Ahmed, Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative on Wednesday said between 2009 and 2012, about 160 million barrels of oil valued at $13.7bn was stolen under the watch of the national oil giant, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

Port Harcourt, Warri Refineries Begin Skeletal Operations...to produce 8.5m Liters of petrol per day


The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, stated yesterday that the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries are expected to contribute about 8.5 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, per day to the country’s fuel supply, in the next couple of days.

The NNPC in a statement signed by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, stated that the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries have been successfully re-streamed after a nine-month phased rehabilitation exercise conducted by its in-house engineers and technicians.

Mullah Mohammed Omar, leader of the Afghan Taliban has died, Afghan officials say, but the militant group has not commented on the claim.

According to BBC.com, The reclusive leader died two to three years ago, Afghan government and intelligence sources said. No further details were released.

Ooni of Ife Oba Okunade Sijuwade is Dead


The Ooni of Ife, Alayeluwa Oba Okunade Sijuwade is dead. He died today in London at the age of 85.

Family sources say he died at about 5pm today after a brief illness. He was reportedly flown to UK in an air ambulance after he became unconscious following his illness. The late Oba is survived by wives and children.

2 Dead, 3 Injured , as petrol Tanker Crash into Buildings in Niger State........with pictures


A tanker loaded with petrol lost control and crashed into buldings and a Micro finance bank along Lagos kaduna road, Niger State. 

According to an witness Dr. chubbie Ezegbulam who spoke with Eze Anyanwu's blog said two kids who always sleep in their father's store were roasted to carbon black. And about 12 houses, 3 cars and 7 motor bikes were also affected. 3 persons sustained minor burn injuries and they have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. view pictures after the cut.....

World Bank Appoints Aruma Oteh as Vice President and Treasurer


Ms Aruma Oteh, the immediate past Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has been appointed  Vice President and Treasurer of the World Bank. 

The appointment was made known to newsmen yesterday in a press release circulated online.  Jim Yong Kim, World Bank President, said, “I am pleased to announce the appointment of Arunma Oteh as VP and Treasurer of the World Bank.  Ms. Oteh was selected for this position through an international competitive search. Bag Containing $665,000 Missing on Transit


According to a BBC report, A bag carrying NZ$1m ($665,000; £425,000) has disappeared while being moved from a Cathay Pacific plane at Hong Kong International Airport.

The bag was one of 13, holding a total of NZ$10m, being sent to the Bank of China in Hong Kong from New Zealand, Chinese media say.

Police are treating the case as theft, they add.

Former SGF Alhaji Aminu Saleh is Dead



Former Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF) during late General Sanni Abacha’s regime, Alhaji Aminu Saleh, is dead.

According to Thisday, Aminu died on Wednesday at the age of 82 in Azare, Bauchi state.

He was a Nigerian administrator, former Finance Minister, and permanent secretary in the Nigerian ministry of Defense. He became the chairman of the National Qu’ranic Recitation Committee in 2006.

Nigeria Stock Exchange Investors Earn N233bn in First Half 2015


Investors in the Nigerian Stock Exchange have earned about N233.7 billion from dividend payments in the stock exchange during the first half of 2015 Vanguard reports.

Acording to reports submitted to the NSE by 64 companies, however, also show that 117 or over 65 per cent  of the quoted companies have either not submitted any report at all or did not declare dividend during the period.

The leading company in the dividend payout record was Dangote Cement Plc which paid a total of N102 billion to its shareholders followed by Zenith Bank Plc which paid a total of N54.4 billion.

Two Aircraft Collide at the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2


Another tragedy was averted on Friday at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) in Lagos following a ground collision of two aircraft belonging to FirstNation Airways.

A similar incident had occurred at the airport on July 6, following the collision of two aircraft belonging to Emirates and Hak Air VANGUARD reports

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday sacked Mr. Patrick Ziakede Akpobolokemi as the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency.

According to PUNCH, Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity announced the sacking in a statement made available to journalists.

CBN Must Devalue Naira - S&P


The apex bank of Nigeria, Central Bank will have to devalue the naira at some stage, possibly by more than 15 per cent, global ratings agency, Standard & Poor’s, has said.

According to PUNCH, The agency, however, said on Wednesday that it saw the adjustments as likely to be gradual.

We will Induce Nigeria to Accept Same Sex Marriage

As President Muhammadu Buhari prepares to meet with his United States counterpart, Barack Obama, in the White House next Monday, the US government is expected to make another case asking the Nigerian government to repeal its law against same-sex unions.


According to the report on THISDAY, online,  the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, stated that the US would continue to pressure Nigeria until it legalises same-sex marriage.


According to the Nigerian Pilot, Thomas-Greenfield revealed America’s plans yesterday during a live-web chat with journalists in Washington DC.


US recently legalised gay marriage, a development, which sparked off mixed reactions across the globe.
Thomas-Greenfield, who said the US had adopted the protection of the rights of same-sex people as part of its foreign policies, vowed that Washington would continue to mount and sustain pressure on Nigeria and other countries to reverse their laws against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender (LGBT) community.

Court Grants Lamido and Sons Bail...to Pay N25million Each


Having spent five days in prison custody, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, today, granted the former ‎governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido‎ bail on self recognizance.

However, Justice Gabriel Kolawole ordered Lamido to surrender all his travelling documents to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.

Similarly, the court, while granting bail to Lamido’s two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, and their alleged accomplice, Wada Abubakar, ordered them to pay the sum of N25million each.

Naira Crashes Further...Now 241 against Dollar


The Naira clinched  another record low of 241 against the dollar at the parallel market on Monday as the Central Bank of Nigeria’s restrictions on foreign exchange sale fuelled unofficial trade in dollars, Reuters reported.

The ban on importers from accessing the Nigerian foreign exchange markets for the importation of 41 items had led to the volatility of the naira-dollar exchange rate at the black market.

Judge Adamant to Dismiss Murder Case Against Suge Knight



According to Associated press (AP) a judge on Tuesday ruled that Marion "Suge" Knight should stand trial for murder despite the fact that a key witness, one of the men he was accused of running over refused to identify him in court.

Cle "Bone" Sloan told detectives it was Knight who ran over him and another man outside a Compton burger stand in January, killing the other man and seriously injuring Sloan. But when Sloan later testified about the incident at Knight's preliminary hearing in April, he refused to say Knight ran him over.

50 Cent Files for Bankruptcy


According to the Wall Street Journal, 50 Cent has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday, July 13,2015.

According to court documents filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy in Hartford Connecticut, Curtis Jackson's "debts are primarily consumer debts." The rapper reported assets and liabilities ranging from $10-$50 million.
