Defence Spokesperson of the Nigerian Military, Chris Olukolade, said thousands of Euros were found on a top Boko Haram leader killed during an operation in Mafa, Bornu State.
The military did not release the identity of the militant.
“The terrorist who is also an Amir by status and believed to be of foreign descent, is among about 30 terrorist fighters who died in the encounter while many others fled with wounds,” he said.
The defence spokesman said the terrorists lost a number weapons and equipment to the military including the captured 13 rifles, a machine gun, rocket propelled grenade tubes and several other assorted ammunition.
Armoured vehicles were also destroyed during the battle and a Toyota Buffalo vehicle was recovered from the terrorists the spokesperson said.
Mr. Olukolade said troops got their equipment damaged.
Mop up operation was ongoing in the area with a continuing offensive on all terrorists’ hideouts he concluded.
